Yobe Governor’s Convoy Attacked by Terrorists, Leaving Two Policemen Dead
In a tragic incident, Boko Haram terrorists have launched a gun attack on the convoy of Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road. The attack occurred on Saturday as the convoy was returning to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, after Governor Buni attended the 24th convocation of the University of Maiduguri in Borno State, where Vice President Kashim Shettima was honored with an honorary doctorate.
The attack took place between Beneshiekh and Mainok, approximately 60 kilometers from Damaturu. Fortunately, Governor Buni was not present in the convoy as he had reportedly flown to Abuja from Maiduguri after the convocation ceremony.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Boko Haram terrorists fired at the convoy from both sides of the expressway, with their primary target being the pilot of the convoy.
Tragically, they succeeded in killing two policemen who were in the front vehicle of the convoy. The attackers managed to escape before security forces could arrive at the scene.
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the attack and the death of the two policemen. The Commissioner of Police, Yahaya Abubakar, stated that investigations into the incident have been initiated and efforts are being made to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the attack.
This attack is another reminder of the persistent threat that Boko Haram poses to the security and stability of the region. Despite efforts by the Nigerian government to combat the terrorist group, it continues to carry out attacks, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake.
Governor Buni has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased policemen and vowed to support and provide assistance to them. He also called for increased intelligence gathering and collaboration between security agencies to enhance the fight against terrorism in the region.
The attack on the governor’s convoy serves as a stark reminder of the need for continued efforts to stamp out terrorism and ensure the safety and security of not only political leaders but also the general population in Nigeria.
