During a press briefing on Friday, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressed strong disapproval of U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent statement equating the actions of Russian President Putin to those of Hamas.
Peskov stated that such a comparison was “unacceptable” to Russia’s leadership.
In response to a question about how the Kremlin perceives Biden’s attempt to draw parallels between Hamas and Putin, Peskov highlighted the current “potentially dangerous moment” the world is experiencing. He noted that while emotions are high among various politicians, such rhetoric is inappropriate for responsible heads of state and is not acceptable to Russia. Peskov further pointed out that Biden’s words imply that the U.S. intends to continue its efforts to exert pressure on and restrain Russia.
In his speech on Thursday, Biden acknowledged that Hamas and Putin represent distinct threats but emphasized their common goal of wanting to “completely annihilate a neighboring democracy.” The comparison, however, has drawn criticism from Russian officials, underscoring the escalating tensions between the two nations.
