…Pro-Democracy Group Calls for Resignation
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is facing mounting pressure to investigate allegations of certificate forgery leveled against Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The call comes from the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a pro-democracy group, which has urged the regional body to probe the accusations that could, if proven true, jeopardize the credibility of ECOWAS.
In a letter signed by NADECO USA’s Executive Director, Lloyd Ukwu, the group highlighted the seriousness of the allegations and emphasized the need for ECOWAS to maintain the highest standards of integrity in its leadership.
The allegations against Tinubu, including certificate forgery at Chicago State University and drug-related offenses in the United States, have become public record. Despite their public nature, Tinubu has not issued a denial.
NADECO USA stressed the moral and legal implications of a president facing such accusations, particularly when holding a prominent position within a regional organization.
The group called for a thorough and serious investigation into the allegations, asserting that the credibility of both ECOWAS and Tinubu was at stake. The organization also demanded Tinubu’s immediate resignation as ECOWAS Chairman pending the outcome of the investigation.
As the pressure intensifies, ECOWAS finds itself in a challenging position, with regional credibility on the line amid these serious allegations against one of its key leaders.
