Former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Armour Division of the Nigerian Army, General Yohanna Yerima Kure (rtd), breathed his last after a prolonged illness.
General Kure, who also served as the commander of the 2 Mechanized Division in Ibadan, and later as the Director of Army Special Duties and Plans, passed away in Kaduna.
General Kure played a pivotal role in leading the Army to suppress the Maitatsine fanatical group in Kano in 1980 and later in Yola in 1982. His military career was marked by a commitment to maintaining peace and order.
Survived by his wife, siblings, numerous children, grandchildren, and relatives, General Y. Y. Kure’s funeral is scheduled for December 1, 2023, in his hometown, Kurmin Musa, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A wake and service of songs to honor General Kure’s memory will be held on November 29, 2023, at ECWA Church on Lemu Road, Tudun Wada, Kaduna, starting at 4 pm. Born on April 2, 1939, into the royal family of Mallam Manchaik Kure and Mallama Tawok Kure, General Kure leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication to his country.
