The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The move comes as conflicting accounts of the incident have emerged, necessitating a thorough and unbiased inquiry.
The IGP assured the public, especially the leadership of organised labour, that the investigation would be transparent, and appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings.
The incident occurred during a protest at the state Secretariat in Owerri, Imo State, where Ajaero and other leaders were highlighting various grievances.
