In a recent operation, the Lagos State Government arrested several commercial vehicle operators for illegally loading passengers at Berger bus stop and its surrounding areas.
The operation, led by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, aimed to curb the reckless parking of commercial vehicles at laybys, bridges, and expressways, which has been causing disruptions in traffic flow.
Jubril A. Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the operation. He stated that the initial visit to address the issue saw low compliance, prompting a stronger enforcement action. During the operation, numerous commercial vehicles were apprehended.
Gawat emphasized that the Commissioner and Special Adviser assured both Lagosians and commercial bus drivers that the enforcement operation would persist until complete compliance was achieved.
This crackdown comes after a prior warning issued by the Lagos State Government on October 25, 2023. The warning explicitly cautioned commercial drivers and traders against loading and selling goods on Carter and Apongbon bridges, as well as all other bridges in the state.
Despite the prior vacation notice issued to occupants of bridges, certain individuals continued to engage in these activities, prompting the government’s decisive action to ensure public safety and traffic efficiency.
