In a bold move to uphold discipline and efficiency within its ranks, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has taken decisive action by dismissing five officials and reprimanding two others.
The Personnel Management Board of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC) ratified all recommendations made during its meeting on Tuesday, 19th of August, 2023.
A press statement from LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the dismissed officials faced termination of employment for their involvement in corruption, while the reprimanded individuals received letters acknowledging their absence from duty posts without leave.
Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakara Oki Olalekan, emphasized that these disciplinary measures align with the established rules outlined in the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations. He urged members of the public to contribute to the agency’s improvement by sharing their experiences, both positive and negative, and providing evidence of perceived misdemeanors.
Mr. Bakare Oki stressed the importance of compliance with the State Traffic Law to avoid penalties and maintain order on Lagos roads. He highlighted the role of public cooperation in achieving a “Greater Lagos” in alignment with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation).
Addressing concerns, Mr. Bakare Oki assured the public that LASTMA welcomes complaints and has established various channels for prompt action. He pledged impartial investigations and swift resolutions, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to enforcing the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018.
Furthermore, Mr. Bakare Oki revealed that the cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are undergoing additional administrative review, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and accountability.
