In a significant move towards organizational transformation, the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) officially launched the Procurement Planning Committee (PPC) and unveiled the Members of the Procurement Tender Board.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the LWC Headquarters in Water-House, Ijora Lagos, was marked by a call for meticulousness and due diligence in the execution of official responsibilities.
Addressing the gathering, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, Chairman of the Parastatal Tenders Board (PTB) and Managing Director of LWC, emphasized the pivotal role this event plays in reshaping the Corporation’s procurement processes. He stressed the importance of strategic planning, proper budgeting, and adherence to established procurement laws as the foundation for the Corporation’s transformation.
“As we embark on a new stride for the transformation of the Lagos Water Corporation, it starts with our planning system and proper budgeting for the various departments, which will then culminate into complying with the procurement processes as established by the Procurement Law,” said Tijani.
Highlighting the need for a change in work attitude, Tijani stated, “We can’t be doing the same thing, the same way and expect a different result.”
He emphasized that the event also serves as a training ground for all Directors and their Assistants, advocating for a knowledge-based organization that fosters career development and best practices.
The Executive Director, Operations, echoed these sentiments, expressing appreciation for the Managing Director and the Procurement Department as LWC embarks on a new chapter. She underlined the importance of correct documentation, particularly in procurement processes, urging staff to differentiate between internal memos and submissions for contracts.
“As Procurement comes to the system, things must be done correctly, particularly documentation, as documentation is very crucial,” she stated.
The newly inaugurated Procurement Tender Board (PTB) Committee comprises seven members, including the LWC Managing Director as Chairman, the Head of Procurement as Secretary, and representatives from various departments. Simultaneously, the Procurement Planning Committee (PPC) includes all LWC Heads of Departments and Units, further reinforcing the commitment to a streamlined and effective procurement process.
