The Ondo State House of Assembly has announced its decision not to investigate the allegations of forgery surrounding the signature of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Claims have surfaced that some government officials forged the governor’s signature on official documents.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kayode Ajulo, and the state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Razak Obe, have raised concerns about disparities in the signature on approved memos.
However, the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, stated in an interview that the legislature has no intention of probing the forgery allegations.
Ogunmolasuyi explained that the House doesn’t need to investigate the matter since the governor, as the owner of the signature, has not complained about forgery.
He emphasized that the essence of a signature is to affirm a document belonging to a person and stressed that Governor Akeredolu himself has debunked the news, communicating with the House using his signature.
Ogunmolasuyi suggested that the forgery allegations are politically motivated and tied to the protracted political crisis in the state, driven by individuals with ambitions for the 2024 governorship election.
The lawmaker called for a focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people and suggested that those claiming forgery should be questioned, with security agencies conducting thorough investigations.
