President Tinubu is scheduled to unveil Nigeria’s groundbreaking electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS) on Wednesday, November 8.
This initiative, a project by the National Population Commission in collaboration with UNICEF and Barnksforte Technologies Ltd., represents a significant advancement in the country’s civil registration landscape.
Operated under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, the e-CRVS system received one of the final approvals during the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, confirmed during the Federal Executive Council meeting on May 15, 2023.
The e-CRVS system is set to revolutionize vital statistics collection and management in Nigeria, providing an advanced and digitalized approach to recording events such as births, deaths, marriages, and other significant life occurrences. It aims to streamline and enhance the process of recording vital events, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in maintaining national records.
A statement from the federal government highlighted the collaborative efforts between the National Population Commission, UNICEF, and Barnksforte Technologies Ltd. as a critical advancement in leveraging technology for more efficient and accurate civil registration. The new system is expected to bolster national databases, improving accuracy, accessibility, and transparency in maintaining vital records nationwide.
