RIVERS PEOPLE IN SUSPENSE AND HIGH EXPECTATIONS AS SUPREME COURT GIVES VERDICT ON GUBER ELECTION TODAY

The long-awaited Supreme Court verdict today, which had been twice postponed,
on the Guber elections in Rivers state has left residents in a state of suspense and anticipation. The outcome of this final decision will determine whether Governor Sim Fubara of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) or Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take the helm of the state.
Governor Sim had previously emerged victorious at both the tribunal and the Appeal court, intensifying expectations among the people. However, concerns have also been raised about possible manipulation of the verdict against Governor Sim due to the APC’s position of power at the center and his ongoing battle with his godfather, Nyesom Wike, a powerful Minister in Abuja.
This political crisis has caused a ripple effect throughout the state, resulting in the resignation of Commissioners and the defection of lawmakers loyal to Wike to the APC. The political landscape is shifting as parties and individuals maneuver for advantage, adding further intrigue to an already tense situation.
Many political observers in Port Harcourt believe that a victory for Governor Sim would not only solidify his position but also signify an end to the era of godfatherism in Rivers politics. This outcome would mark a new chapter of political inclusiveness, where all stakeholders can have a voice and contribute to the development of the state.
As the Supreme Court prepares to deliver its final verdict, the entire state anxiously waits with bated breath. The outcome of this decision will undoubtedly shape the future of Rivers politics and determine the path the state takes in the coming years.
Tom Nko-Tariah, a grassroots mobilizer and Gov Sim Fubara Supporter told our reporter in Port Harcourt this morning,
” The tension is high. People are waiting and praying for Gov Sim to be victorious.”
