Supreme Court of Nigeria Faces Staffing Crisis

Date:

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has revealed that the Supreme Court is currently operating with only 10 Justices, the lowest number in its contemporary history.

This staffing shortage comes amidst a heavy workload of pending cases. Justice Musa Dattijo Mohammed’s recent retirement has further depleted the court’s bench.

The CJN assured the public that efforts are underway to appoint additional Justices to address this staffing crisis.

The CJN paid tribute to Justice Dattijo, acknowledging his contributions to the legal profession and his support in the administration of the court.

The retirement of experienced Justices raises concerns about the court’s ability to manage its caseload effectively.
