Bayelsa Election: INEC Confirms Abduction Of Several Workers In Brass Local Government, Demands Immediate Release

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has demanded the immediate release of its officials reportedly held hostage in the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by suspected hoodlums.

According to a terse statement issued by the electoral body on Sunday afternoon, some of its officials on election duty in the Saturday’s governorship election in the state are being held hostage in Brass Local Government Area.

The commission, which said it is watching the situation in the area, warned that holding its officials hostage is detrimental to credible elections, and therefore called on the security agencies to immediately facilitate the release of its officials.

“The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area; The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage.

“This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release,” the commission stated.

There are reports that thugs reportedly loyal to Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Saturday’s election in the State killed a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the same Brass council area.

We learnt that thugs allegedly working for the APC killed the youth identified as Berepelenyo George Sibo, at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Twon-Brass, headquarters of Brass Local Government Area, on Sunday.
