Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has committed the Parliament to provide legislative support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in enhancing social infrastructure and achieving food security in the nation’s capital.
Kalu made this commitment during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Kuje Interfaith Forum, led by Senior Pastor Sam Ogbodo.
The Kuje Interfaith Forum is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and ethno-religious organization dedicated to promoting peace, religious tolerance, and development in Kuje municipality. The delegation sought the intervention of the House to address the community’s basic needs, including roads and other social amenities.
Expressing his appreciation for the unity in the community, Kalu affirmed that their requests aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He pledged the Parliament’s collaboration with the executive branch to address the concerns raised by the delegation, emphasizing that their demands were in line with the legislative agenda unveiled the previous week.
Kalu stated, “As a Parliament, we have decided that though we are three arms of government, we are one government. The national objective of the executive is the national objective of the legislature.”
He assured the delegation that their concerns, including infrastructure development, were incorporated into both the legislative agenda and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Highlighting the importance of infrastructure as a catalyst for growth, Kalu emphasized the commitment of the FCT Minister to interpreting and implementing the Renewed Hope agenda in the context of infrastructure development.
He assured the delegation that the House of Representatives would provide significant support to the Minister to address the needs of the Kuje district.
In response to the delegation’s plea for improved water supply, Pastor Ogbodo requested the linking of Kuje Area Council to the pipe-borne water supply system in Abuja Municipal Area Council and Gwagwalada Area Council, citing potential health benefits for the community.
