Governor Makinde Reaffirms Commitment to Education, Urges Collaboration for a Better Oyo State

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State reiterated his administration’s dedication to education during the inaugural Education Day celebration titled ‘A Day With His Excellency’.

The event, held at Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, UCH, Ibadan, saw the governor’s deputy, Mr Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, speaking on his behalf.

Highlighting the paramount importance of education, Governor Makinde emphasized that his government had allocated approximately 20 percent of the state’s budget to the education sector. He underscored the significance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and ensuring a brighter future for the younger generation.

The governor disclosed various initiatives aimed at enhancing the education sector, including recruiting 5,000 teachers under Omitutun 1.0, the establishment of a new campus in Iseyin, and the sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University. He also praised the parents of the award-winning students and urged continued collaboration between the government, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to maintain and enhance the state’s educational standards.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Professor Solihu Adelabu, echoed the governor’s sentiments, emphasizing the government’s commitment to investing in both infrastructure and human capital development. He announced rewards for outstanding students, encouraging them to continue their pursuit of excellence.

The commissioner lauded the collaborative efforts of parents, teachers, and school administrators, acknowledging their pivotal role in the state’s educational achievements. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for learning and urged everyone to work collectively toward the betterment of Oyo State’s education sector.

In his closing remarks, he expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their support and dedication, emphasizing the importance of unity and kindness in ensuring the state’s continued progress in education.
