“Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu To Declare Guber Ambition Next Week,” says aide.

“He has already secured a campaign office along Airport Road. Some of the campaign vehicles have started arriving…” said an aide.

In a rare challenge, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, is set to officially declare his intention to contest for the state governorship election next year, according to sources.

Despite Governor Godwin Obaseki’s reluctance to pass the baton to Shaibu, the deputy governor has been actively consulting with politicians and the media regarding his governorship aspirations.

Recently, Shaibu met with journalists in Abuja and has another meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

According to a close aide who wished to remain anonymous, “If everything goes according to plan, Shaibu will announce his intention next week. He has already secured a campaign office and campaign vehicles have started arriving. The consultations have reached an advanced stage.”

Meanwhile, Major-General Charles Arhiavbere, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2012 and now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that there is no zoning in the APC.

Arhiavbere made this statement while declaring his intention to run for governorship in a meeting with members of the Oredo Ward 1. He emphasized the need for Edo State to align with the federal government, stating, “Bringing this state to the APC government is a task that must be done.”

Regarding the idea of zoning, Arhiavbere said, “You can only zone what you have. If you don’t have a daughter, you cannot give out a daughter into marriage. That is why APC must present the best, and the best is standing before you.”

The State Youth Leader of the APC, Mr. Tony Kabaka, added that the state needs a governor who will respect and protect the Benin monarch.
