A shocking memo, allegedly emanating from the Office of The Secretary to the Government demanding a whopping N1 billion to inaugurate a minimum committee set up by the President to discuss the minimum wage of Nigerian workers has come to light. This excessive amount, meant to cover the expenses of committee meetings, raises serious concerns about the government’s misplaced priorities and wasteful spending habits.
The fact that all the committee members already have offices and homes in Abuja only highlights the absurdity of allocating such a large sum for this purpose. One begins to question the necessity of this exorbitant budget when a fraction of the proposed amount could easily cover the required expenses. It is clear that frivolities and extravagance have taken precedence over the well-being of the Nigerian people.
Adding insult to injury, the government has continually failed to meet its agreements with labor, resulting in unpaid salaries for many hardworking individuals. While these workers struggle to make ends meet, the government nonchalantly allocates billions of naira for a committee inaugurated to discuss their plight. This stark contrast between priorities showcases the government’s blatant disregard for the needs and concerns of its citizens.
In a country where daily lives are at stake, with reports of the crumbling healthcare system and the mass exodus of doctors due to poor conditions, the allocation of funds for this committee is beyond comprehension.
